A Fife family are taking part in a run to raise money, after their mother suffered a stroke last year.

Linda Jennings (51), who lives in Glenrothes, suffered the stroke last September and has been in Cameron Hospital since then.

On March 12, her husband, Kenneth, son Sean, daughters, Lauren and Kirstie, and Kirstie’s ex-husband, Bryan Gray, will take part in the Stroke Association’s Resolution Run to raise money for the charity.

Kirstie (24), a student nurse, says it was her dad who got the family involved in the 10km run.

“My dad heard it advertised on the radio,” she said. “He thought it would be a really good thing for us to take part in. The whole thing has been quite stressful but we are all there to support each other.

“We were all struggling. I think that’s another reason why my dad said yes to the run – we are all training together and it takes our minds off it.”

Kirstie said that the family has been using the Stroke Association to find out more about strokes, which was part of the reason they wanted to raise funds for the charity.

Linda is still in hospital recuperating from the stroke and is “going through quite intensive rehab and physio”, according to Kirstie.

She added that, while her mum has been making a slow recovery, she does not know when she will be coming out of hospital.

“We are not sure when she’ll get out,” she added. “There’s quite a lot of work needing done to the house to make it accessible for her.

“We’re justing waiting on that and how the physio and the rehab go. Every day she is able to walk more and more. She’s able to do 14 steps now. It’s all going in the right direction.”
