Saturday saw Tayport play their first official fixture of 2016 when they travelled to meet title-chasing Bo’ness United

While ‘Port battled well throughout, it turned out to be another disappointing reversal for the Canniepairt outfit who lost out by three goals to nil and had to play the entire second half with only 10 men.

The BUs showed their intent early on and, following a corner kick, Drew Fleming had to clear an effort off the line.

By the fifth minute, the hosts had opened the scoring.

Pedro Moutinho was the goalscorer, finding the bottom corner of the net with a low free kick.

For the rest of the half, ‘Port managed to keep Bo’ness at bay, but suffered a self-inflicted blow on 37 minutes when Kris Rollo was red-carded for a reckless tackle on Fraser Keast.

This left the visitors with a proverbial mountain to climb and they could muster only one notable effort on goal during the match.

Substitute Stefan Elvin was the player who tried to galvanise his team, but his speculative shot from distance flew over the bar.

Eleven minutes into the half, ‘Port ‘keeper Gavin Sorley made a good stop and followed it up with another save to thwart the ever-dangerous Keast.

However, the ball fell to right-back William Snowdon and he fired his low shot into the corner of Sorley’s net to double his side’s lead.

A few minutes later, Bo’ness, with their tails up, netted again when Ross Philp burst forward from midfield, linked with Moutinho and planted his finish beyond Sorley.

At this point, it looked as though the BUs might run away with the match and really put Tayport to the sword, but John Ovenstone’s troops fought valiantly for the final half hour and there was no more scoring.
