Sauchie draw shows we can mix it with the best

After drawing with league leaders Sauchie last weekend, Tayport now turn their attention to overhauling third-placed Kennoway Star Hearts when the pair meet at Treaton Park tomorrow.

Relatively new to the junior ranks, KSH currently sit two points ahead of ‘Port in the table, having played one game fewer.

A win for ‘Port would therefore be a big boost to the club’s promotion hopes.

Last week, Hearts lost by the odd goal in three at fellow promotion-chasers Forfar West End, but they do have an impressive 100 per cent league record at Treaton Park this term, having won all five of their fixtures there to date.

‘Port gaffer John Ovenstone knows his team will have to be at its best to plunder three points from their first ever match against KSH, but believes his charges are more than capable.

“We went into the Sauchie match on the back of two poor results, but showed grit and determination to gain a point,” he said.

“Twice we fell behind, but we kept our heads up and showed that we can mix it with the top sides.”

The player-boss also indicated that he will have a headache when it comes to selecting his starting XI and, indeed, his squad for the trip to Star.

Tayport were without regulars Alan Tulleth, Sergio Alvarez and Jamie Mackie last week and they could all make a return tomorrow afternoon.
