One of the outcomes of lockdown is that we now place more value on our parks and public spaces.

Places we once took for granted are now integral to our daily walks.

Kirkcaldy’s Prom has long been a popular place - but the numbers using it are clearly growing.

Across the day, and into the evening, you will see a steady stream of walkers, runners, joggers, pet owners, and push chairs passing each other from the Basin to the Port Brae, and back again.

The addition of a mile marker is something so simply you wonder why it wasn’t done years ago.

It is only recently we have started to appreciate the asset we turned our backs on generations ago.

A town centre which ought to have been built around it, stubbornly faces the other way - a legacy we have to work round and change, piece by piece.

Finally there is a desire to reconnect the High Street with the waterfront, and, from that come initiatives such as the mile markers.

There is still much that could be done to transform a stretch which boasts some of the best views in the Kingdom, and links so neatly into Fife Coastal Path.

Visitors to town see its beauty straight away.

Lockdown allowed us to see it with fresh eyes, and start to appreciate it.

Once the roadworks are complete we should have a waterfront to be proud of once again… and one that still has so much potential we must tap into.
